Swaddling end?

Hi,

My LO has always liked sleeping with his arms up and traditional swaddle blankets never worked-always managed to break out of them. So Love to Dream Swaddle Up bag has been fantastic, but LO has a) pretty much outgrown it and b) at nearly 5 months, isn’t it time to transition?

There is a bigger size of this swaddle bag available, so that’s an option, but they are expensive and it would be pointless to buy it for the sake of a few weeks.

My LO thrashes around in the light sleep stage and the stretchy part of swaddle bag prevents accidental face smacks. Does the flailing mean the startle reflex isn’t gone or is this a different type of flailing?

Also, heard that when a baby rolls over, it’s time to stop swaddling. Are we talking rolling unaided front to back and back to tummy? LO can only roll back to side and not frequently.

Thanks!

The same company does transitional bags where you let them have one arm out then the second. Might be worth a go. I'm planning to use those with DD as she's currently in the normal ones.

If it’s hrlping baby sleep better I’d say it’s definitely worth getting the size up even for a few weeks. Think about what you’d pay for more sleep! I second the one suggested above where you can zip off the sleeves one by one. Once baby is out of it try putting him down to sleep on his side, that helped mine be less flaily. I found he can still be a bit flaily at over 6 months unless he’s on his tummy though, and it took him until he was rolling confidently both ways to be able to get on his tummy on his own in his sleep.

Gone and ordered the Transition swaddle in larger size. Can’t put a price on sleep, so true! Thank you both😊

The SwaddleUp swaddles prevent them from rolling over. Why should we stop using these swaddles once our babies can roll over though? There is no risk of getting stuck rolled over.

How does it stop them from rolling over? My DS had the same swaddle (loved it) and rolled over no problem in it. I found him face down in his cot one night and had a heart attack.

DS was a swaddle obsessed sleeper so I dreaded the weak we switched to a sleep sack but he actually took to it surprisingly quickly.
