Travel cots - new or second hand?

I know the safe sleep guidelines recommend new mattresses when buying Moses baskets and cots new, but does the same apply to travel cots?

My son will be 13 months tomorrow and we have a caravan. He shares the double bed with me and my husband has the bed in the lounge when we go away. I'd like him
in a travel cot even though it will take up most of the available floor space in the caravan but not sure what the opinion is in second hand ones?

@Clevs second hand is fine as they are plastic and wipe clean, BUT I would ask to check it over first before buying. You can also get a proper Mattress for them on eBay as the normal mattress are horrendous x

Thank you! I have been looking around at which one to get and noticed that a mattress is an optional extra on a lot of them so guessed that the ones they came with were probably a bit naff!
