8 week old sleep

Hi all ,

I am new to mumsnet and just wondering if my babies behaviour is normal and if there is anything I can do to improve on it if needed...

My LO is 9 weeks and seems to only nap in the day for 45 mins to 1.5 hours - never longer. Other babies same age seem to have 3-4 hour naps in the day or longer. She does nap a lot so she is getting plenty of sleep as her awake windows are also only an hour or so ... but I just wonder if she should be awake longer and napping longer at this stage ? So more like 3 longer naps a day instead of 6 + she does now !

Night time is similar - only sleeping for 1 - 2 hour blocks at night ... waking up to feed . Again other babies are apparently sleeping for 3-4 hour blocks ! She is exclusively breastfed and no plans to stop that, but I wonder if I am not filling her up enough at feeds which is why she is waking more often ? I don't know ... if it's all totally normal then I won't worry ! The books say an 8 week old should sleep for 5 hours now and 4 naps a day ... that's not my babe at all !

Thanks in advance for any advice / reassurance .

Honestly every baby is different. My Dd now 12 weeks has had fits and starts with sleep. Sometimes sleeping really well and others not so much. She still has most days where like your LO she naps like that. Sleeping at night similarly to yours but does tend to only wake 2 or 3 times most nights now. I use a next to you crib at night and sometimes co sleep depending on how she is as she just loves her cuddles!!
I ebf and she went through a stage at about 8 weeks of cluster feeding constantly. I had about 4 days where I barely left the sofa as all she wanted was to be on the boob!!

I found googling the 4th trimester really helpful though! May be worth a read!

Totally normal. Books etc only talk about averages. Feed and sleep pattern completely normal. Every baby different. Google the milk meg and Kelly mom for great info on bf inc sleep.

My 16 week old is like this. Sometimes his naps will be 10-20 minutes long. He naps when he starts getting grouchy and I settle him, then is awake until the grumpiness appears again. He should be sleeping through but isn't at all and wakes up between 4-8 times a night. But every baby different and I learnt early on that I have to just go with what works for him. I know it can be hard but do try not to compare, and things will get better. I've noticed ff babies tend to sleep better, but like you I am ebf. I hope things are better for you soon!
