Why is my normally good sleeper waking at 5.40?!

I have an 18 month old DS and he has has been a really good, adaptable sleeper since 7/8 months (didn't come naturally, we worked really hard at making this happen!)

He dropped to 1 nap at 16 months and took to this really well. His normal wake time is anything between 6.15 and 7am. Even if he woke earlier we always left him and he would happily put himself back to sleep. For the past 4 mornings he is waking at 5.40 and I just don't get why?

The only thing that has changed is he now goes to nursery 2 days a week (but has been doing this for 3 weeks now). I know there is an 18 month regression but I thought this only affected bedtimes and night wakes?

Any thoughts or advice as to why this is happening and what I should do? I just want his morning wake time to start with a 6 rather than a 5!

Thank you! xx

Could it be anything to do with the lighter mornings? Is his room dark enough?

MoleMummy · 24/04/2019 06:18

Hi @Littlefroggy18. Yes he has had blackout blinds since 7/8 months so his room is pitch black!

Sleep regression hits at 18 months as well, this was the worst for us! Start with 5am wakings, he would sleep 7pm-7am before this. Then refusal to go sleep at night and would cry for hours and hours on end. Just pray it’s not the start OP!

@Cream123 sorry for the late reply.
Naps are usually 12.30-2.30/3 and I bring bedtime forward if he wakes early. Funnily enough I read something about early wakes sometimes being due to children being cold so I put the heating on to come on an hour earlier and he woke at 6.45 today! May he fluke so we'll see tomorrow!
