How to get my baby to nap without being held

Hi everyone! My baby is nearly 5 months old and takes his naps being rocked on my chest...if i put him down, he immediately wakes up! How do I bridge the gap to getting him to sleep on his own and not wake up when I put him down? I wish i could put him down when he is drowsy and then he would just sleep further..but no...he starts fussing and wakes himself...

Mine took all his naps in my arms until one day, he magically went down in his cot for a nap and stayed asleep!

How does he go down in bed at night? I worked on getting him to self settle to be at night, then the cot naps fell into place. I did this, but I started at 8 weeks old.
