Best white noise app/machine

I’m having a bloody nightmare with 4.5 month old DS’s sleep at the moment so am looking into using white noise to help him settle.

I am considering buying a white noise toy, like a myhummy (or the cheaper gro company equivalent) so opinions on those welcome, but in the mean time I want to try an app to get a feel for if it’s going to work.

What’s the best free app to try? And is there a specific noise that works better than others? (Have noticed that they have different setting, hairdryer, tv static etc)

At the moment I feed DS to sleep then put him in the cot which is fine when I first put him down, and usually for the first waking, but he will not go back in the cot after subsequent night wakings - will fall asleep on the boob then wake as soon as I put him down, so I want to encourage him to go in the cot awake and then self settle to sleep (holy grail I know)

Any advice on how best to use white noise (or any other tips!) greatly appreciated.
Tia

We use one called baby white noise sounds on an old phone.
Weirdly, because she hates the actual vacuum cleaner, that's the sound we use.

I only use white noise in emergencies but have a Ewan the dream sheep which is ok for naps but goes off after 20 mins which sometimes isn't long enough.
Also have the white noise app on my phone which is free, the womb noise calms ds instantly and the rain on a tent noise is great for me Smile

There are loads on YouTube to try. I have insomnia and play 8 hours of rain noises or I'd never sleep.

Ewan the sleep sheep works wonders for my little boy! Would be lost without it.

Dose 20 minutes of sound.
has a lullaby function
Red light function
Two white noises

Best thing ever

We use Myhummy on the heartbeat setting and I set it to play all night. I give his last feed in the bedroom with the lights down and white noise on.

The best white noise machines are by Marpac but they are pricey.

NobodysBlackerThanMe · 12/04/2019 12:22

Same for the MyHummy on the heartbeat setting. Worked a treat.

I’ve just sent back the myHummy. I thought it was quite cheaply put together for what it is. It sounds v tinny and didn’t work for my boy.

I use an amazon echo - currently only £29!! You can ask it to play white noise on loop. Then it can also be used for music etc - bargain!! I also use an ap called sound sleeper. He responds well to mountain stream.

Chester1980 · 12/04/2019 16:12

I mean I thought the myHummy was quite cheaply put together for the cost. It constantly needed new batteries too. At least once a week.

We use white noise deep sleep sounds app and leave on all night. I have a gro owl but this is better as is doesn't turn off and more choice. And it's free! We use hairdryer
