when do you switch from cot to toddler bed?

And how do you make that transition with ease?

My ds is 21 months old and has always had several wakings at night. Weve tried so many things except cc. We finally resigned to it and decided the only thing that would make our lives easier would be to drop the side of his cot and join it to our bed, so that its the bare minimal effort, ie reach over- give him his comfort blanket and pat him for a few mins back to sleep. Without having to get out of bed (DH and I find that really hard!) Lately he has been climbing over into our bed all night and its driving us crazy.

Now Im due for baby no2 in december, and wanted to transfer ds into a bed at the other end of the room (doesnt have own room- we dont have the space). When should I do it and do you think he is too young for that move, should I wait till he is two? That will be cutting it fine, ie only a couple of months before baby2 arrives..

any advice?
thankyou

if your baby is due in december, then it is better to do it sooner rather than later. this is to ensure that he doesnt feel the new baby has taken over 'his' space.
will you have enough space in the room for all four of you?

hardly enough rooom for all four of us! Its so worrying!

fwiw, we decided to keep ds in his cot when dd was born (he was 25 mths) - we just bought another cot (cheap Ikea one - only £20!) When we finally moved him into a big bed we were amazed how easily he took to it - and actually he slept much better (he's also a rubbish sleeper)

Good luck, whatever you decide

DS was moved to his 'big boy bed' and a new room when he was 27 months, as DD was due three months later. We decorated the room in 'Thomas' motif, bought a 'Thomas' Duvet and laid out all his trains everywhere, put a red ribbon over the doorway, and made a big ceremony over it. He was over the moon, and we've had no problems at all, 6 months in to it.
