7 month old ended up sleeping with us

Hi all,
I just wanted to share my issue and wondered if anyone has the same problem or had the same problem and knew how to help.
Our 7 1/2month old has always slept in his cot fine (apart from regression or teeth) and woke a couple of times ,£
in the night here and there but last week he had a fever and sickness so was in bed with us one night as I was worried about him.
He then went back to his cot for a few nights fine with a few wakes.
The last 2 night's though, he's cried and cried in the night and every time he's put down he screams. Last night he screamed for 3 hours of us persevering to not have him in with us - but I couldn't do anymore and he came in with us in the end. He literally laughed and fell asleep when he came into our bed.
I'm worried now that I'm not going to be able to keep him in his cot like I've done before.
It could be the beginning of the 8 month regression also?
Any help or advice would be great.
Thank you :)

Co-sleeping isn’t the end of the world (I’m saying this with my 1 yr old and 6 yr old both asleep in my bed right now) getting a reasonable amount of sleep is the most important thing

Agree with @PippilottaLongstocking.
My ds (15month) was doing this constantly a few weeks ago, I gave up am brought him in with us, now he's gradually sleep in his cot longer (5/6am and come in with me for a hourish then we get up. I figured the stress and crying etc was traumatising and making him fight even more so I am just letting it play out and if I need to bring him in with me to ensure he's dsnt cry too much and get worked up, I do. Obviously I let him have a wee moan and try sort his self out bit if he get upset I go in x
