What's everyone's honest opinion on sleep training? I personally do not agree with it but I am finding myself to be a much worse mother during the day to my baby because I am exhausted. I will also admit that I am becoming increasingly impatient with him at night and I feel awful for it.

He is 5 months and wakes every hour for feeds. It's becoming painful to feed him this much but nothing else settles him and he just screams when I don't give in.

I don't want to sleep train but at the same time I do not feel like I am coping on this amount of sleep.

5 months was my absolute worst point in terms of frequency of feeding and it being uncomfortable (aside from the first few weeks). I found it really tough but DD learnt a lot of new things between 4-6 months and was comfort feeding so much it felt like it would never end. I co-slept which helped enormously and it got better at 6 months and dropped to 2 hourly with the odd 3-4 hour sleep which was ok mostly. As you can see the from my recent thread at 11 months it's gone to hell again so i'm sleep training. I'm doing it slowly though and it feels like the right time for us. If now is the right time for you then do it! I didn't enjoy 5 months very much but when it got a bit better I enjoyed her alot more and became a nicer person. I got to the point of not being happy or pleasant to be around again so here I am.....sleep training very slowly but with some improvement! Everyone is different, do what is right for you as a family. Whatever you decide it will get better OP. You're doing an amazing job, this parenting lark is hard!

5 months here too and I am more tired at this point than I've been since he was a newborn. I am physically aching from tiredness. He has learnt to do full rolls and now does them in his sleep but wakes himself up. Four times so far since 6pm bedtime tonight.

As far as feeding goes, he was back to needing the boob 3-4 times a night from 10pm until two nights ago I just decided not to give him the boob. I have him his dummy and cuddled/stroked him (we co-sleep) and he settled himself until the morning every time. It wasn't as bad as I had feared it would be.

Last night we just did one feed.

Who knows what tonight will bring. Confused

Oh, and tomorrow night I'm going to bed at 6pm with the baby. Hubby doesn't get home until 6.30pm so I guess I'll just see him on Wednesday Grin
