Why won't he sleep in cot?

I have a 7 month old, who won't sleep in his cot ( we have surprising nights where he does all night or hours at a time) but lately everytime I put him down he wakes. He sleeps in my arms and let's me put him in pram easy enough but not the cot.

I have put a rolled up towel in to make it cosy, put my sheet in his cot so it smells like me.

Anyone any suggestions that dont involve letting him cry.

Ta

Is it cold when you put him in there? Try warming up the sheet with a hot water bottle before you put him down and /or swaddling so he still feels cuddled in his cot.

Thanks he has a fleecy blanket instead if a sheet now so shouldn't be cold and heating is always on. Will try swaddling again though, ta x

Have him wrapped in the blanket while you are feeding/cuddling him and then when you put him down put the blanket under him so there is a layer of warmth between him and the cot. Or use a gro bag for the same effect.

I don't have a huge amount of advice but I'd recommend the No Cry Sleep Solution book by Pantely/Pantley(?).
It explains how to make such transitions gradually.
I end up going through a (rather tedious!) routine of letting DD (8mo) fall asleep in my arms then I gradually and oh so carefully put her in the cot. It takes ages but I can just about trick her into being in there. But if she rolls onto her back we start all over again (sleeps on side only- I think it makes her feel more cosy)
