Since December our soon to be 18 month old daughter has been waking up in the night ranging between 0000 - 0300, hysterically crying. Before she used to sleep through from 0700 - 0700. Putting her down has always been relatively painless, she has around 1.5/2 hours nap at nursery around 12.30, in the evening we bathe her around 1830 and then once in her pjs and grobag we give her a bottle in the nursery before transfering her into the cot once she’s finished. The midnight wake up call is proving a real challenge and we are at a loss as what to do! We go in to comfort her and as soon as we are in the room she quietens. We’ve tried not picking her up, rubbing her back and laying by the side of the cot with a hand on her to sooth her (for varying lengths of time) back to sleep but with varying success but typically when we take our hand away and leave the room (creaking floorboards don’t help) she wakes again. We attempt to leave her to cry out for about 20 minutes before returning and repeating multiple times after an hour or two my wife usually breaks before sweeping her up and bringing her into the family bed where sooner rather than later she drifts back to sleep. Me and my wife both work and can’t deal with these sleepless nights, so we usually end up bringing her into our bed and she goes to sleep usually immediately. My wife thinks she might be teething but it’s gone on for so long now. We thought about approaching a sleep guru, but thought it was best reaching out to other parents who have similar experiences beforehand to see if there is anything more we can do. Has anyone else been through this and how did it resolve? Any advice welcome!
