Yes ladies we've got a shiny new thread to share our woes of chronic sleep deprivation, to hail all that is gloreous when something works and throw our arms in the air when it all goes wrong again.

One bad night doesn't impress us, we're awake more than we sleep cos we is 'ard I tell ya.

Quiet here today?

I do hope it's because you're all taking long bubble baths/making phone calls/reading undisturbed while your LOs sleep peacefully .

Ginger for your night. Glad dd stayed in her room, but the wakings sound like a bit of a killer. Nice to hear you're so positive about the new routine at the moment - perhaps you'll spur me on to cut down on the rocking/ swaddling (currently leaving one arm out - scared to move to grobag as dd can thrash for Britain).

DD had a monster nap in the buggy this am so I had lots of time to browse in the library after doing the shopping . She's been unsettled during her lunchtime nap, but it's worth it as I've got some new books!

EffiePerine · 19/07/2007 15:01

Baaad night for us, probably due to hot and muggy night in London. Lots of wakings and DS woke up at 4am and refused to go back to sleep for ages.

Have new resolution: taking no notice of number of wakings apart from logging about once a week. All part of plan to chill out and see what happens

Glad some nights were pretty good out that - that sounds like an improvement Bags

Have done little on blog for ages - been sucked into Facebook - not enough time in the day! Will post something this evening if DS cooperates.

tibsy · 19/07/2007 16:23

afternoon lovely ladies
thanks ginger and glad you had a good 7 hour sleep but you still feel crap
amber way to go!!!

just wanted to share that we've had a fantastic day at the farm. maddie got to pet, lambs, cows, donkeys, gerbils, cats..... she just laughed at every animal!!! so cute. slept on the coach there and back and was as good as gold. such a lovely experience. ooooh, we even had a tractor ride.

hope everyone else been having a lovely day xx

gingerninja · 19/07/2007 16:24

Effie sounds like a good plan. I think part of my problem is that I think about it too much.

EffiePerine · 19/07/2007 16:28

Ginger: yes, I get myself so worked up and convonced that thgere is a magic solution when I know there isn't - I'm not stopping trying, just trying things gradually and seeing how we get on

so I still don't get any sleep but am much more relaxed at the whole thing

MegBusset · 19/07/2007 17:17

Confession time: I have just put DS down for a nap in a wee-soaked grobag

He had been fighting nap for ages (has been a bugger to get to sleep today, think his eczema is itchy due to heat) and finally got him on the very edge of dropping off when I felt the wet patch on his bag. No way was I about to wake him up to change it, but I will sort him out as soon as he wakes up!

(Didn't want to delay nap any more as it's so late in the day, but his third nap finished at 3.15 and that's just too far away from bedtime. Funnily enough his lunchtime nap was 1.5 hours, but he still needs a fourth nap!)

growingbagpuss · 19/07/2007 17:21

Hello- -just found you... can i join in? I'm nearly 38 wks and am currently "sleeping" on an airbed in the front room - I don't usually ddrop of until 1am, then as soon as I change position it hurts so much I wake up, and sit up. I'm usually fully awake by 5 (at the latest), but tend to drop off again at 6, just in time for DH's alarm, and then DS getting up at 6.30.

Even the nursery staff commented on how crap I look, and in the mornings I shake I'm so tired.... happy days.

MegBusset · 19/07/2007 17:29

Hello Bagpuss and congrats on your baby-to-be. I remember well how uncomfortable those last weeks are, I had restless leg syndrome, a dodgy knee and swollen ankles and found it really tough to sleep. Still, at least I could go to bed at 9pm and stay there for 12 hours. Chance would be a fine thing now...

How old is your LO? Does he sleep OK?

Tamdin · 19/07/2007 17:37

hi bagpuss of course you can join us. sounds tough. am assuming ds is ok sleeper it's just pregnancy?
poor you

meg wouldn't give sleepingbag a 2nd thought. wait until they're licking the sole of your shoe which my ds has done on several occasions! gross!!

growingbagpuss · 19/07/2007 18:03

DS is 2.6 and usually a very good sleeper -DH snores like he is in a competition!!

its just the discomfort really - I'm hopng it will all sort itself out soon......

Amberjee · 19/07/2007 18:54

hi growingbagpuss, i just hope you have a good sleeper when he/she comes. how is the pregnancy other than the lack of sleep?
don't want to predict anything, but my LO came at 38 weeks. he was raring to go!

Amberjee · 19/07/2007 18:55

oh ps. why are you sleeping on an airbed?

growingbagpuss · 19/07/2007 18:57

because it igves me the moral high ground with DH - who refuses to budge off the double bed.

He doesn't see it as a problem, or acknowledge that he snores even.

Amberjee · 19/07/2007 20:41

whaaa? at 38 weeks pregnant, YOU sleep in the bed. kick him out! Grrrrr ...

Amberjee · 19/07/2007 21:13

bags - yay for monster nap and new books. i've started a new book, but it's going very sloowwwwwwly, due to me falling asleep after only one page in the evening.

ginger- i think i did get carried away with BLW too. have to remind myself it's all new to him and he surely doesn't mind having just steamed vegetables at the moment!

EffiePerine · 19/07/2007 21:17

Get your DH off the bed and onto the floor! Possibly at 1am

DS fast asleep - he napped for about 2.5 hrs in total at the cms - prob cos he got so little sleep last night. Am tempted to ask her if she does nights...

XcupcakemummyX · 19/07/2007 21:23

also have a very very noisy snoring dh
ds took ages to settle usual tonight
dh on night duty so at last no snoring
dd is waffling on at the mo

XcupcakemummyX · 19/07/2007 22:40

i hope there will be some peace

bagsundereyes · 20/07/2007 07:56

Morning all,

Any good nights?

Hi Bagpuss - another vote for you in the bed, hubby on mattress!

Cupcake - did you get some peace in the end?

Meg - dd has also napped in a rather moist vest on occasion. You just can't let anything disturb that golden falling asleep moment.

Tibs - your day sounds lovely!

EP - I know what you mean about these muggy London nights. I don't think it's disturbing dd too much, but I'm finding it harder to drop back off. Hope DS stayed asleep for a good stretch.

Average night here. DD went to sleep at 7.30. Woke 11.30, 3.30, 5 and 6. DH took over last night [grateful to lovely husband emoticon] so although I woke I was able to get straight back to sleep.

Lunch out with old work friends today. I hated that particular job, but am thinking of asking if there's any vacancies, as at the moment it looks like I might have to commute with dd from Camberwell to Farringdon in order to get the right childcare hours . Old employer is 10 minutes walk from my house, which would make things easier. Crap job though.

Anyway, I wish you all great days .

growingbagpuss · 20/07/2007 08:47

miracles in this house last night - DH came home from pub and offered to sleep on airbed..... bliss.

He slept soundly thru' the rain, and DS's "I want a wee wee" at 3.00 am- but i slept for the first time in about 3 weeks with none of taht horrible I'm awake feeling. I got up, twice for the loo, and obviously for DS, but went back each time!

My body was so shocked I woke at 5 and couldn't get back to sleep!!

I feel so full of energy it's amazing...... wonder how long it will last?

Amberjee · 20/07/2007 08:55

growingbagpuss, glad you had a better night.

we had a sleeptastic night here, i almost don't want to say but LO slept from 8pm to 5am, feed, then back until 7.40!

bagsundereyes · 20/07/2007 08:57

How lovely - you deserve it.
