Bringing bedtime forward?

My 8 week old falls asleep by himself at 10:30 each night. We have him bathed and fed normally by 8 o clock but no amount of soothing or self soothing leads to him falling asleep before 10:30. How do I bring this forward if he has no intention of sleeping before?!

At the minute you don’t, you can’t really force an 8 week old to do anything. Just go with what he wants. Our little girl fell asleep for the night between 9.30 and 10.30 until she was about 12/13 weeks old, starting getting slightly earlier the older she gets. Some babies will still be awake at midnight

It’s a bit early to get an earlier bedtime. It’s usually easier to get a schedule started at about 3 or 4 months, their needs change so quickly before then

Hi, our DD was the same up until about 10/11 weeks. Wouldn’t be interested in bed til 10ish. We didn’t mind it to be honest. She’s now 16 weeks and goes to bed so much earlier. I think the change came when she started fighting her daytime naps (oh I miss those days of easy napping now haha) so when it gets to evening if she hasn’t slept since 4.30 she has to go down no later than 6.30 otherwise she gets so overly emotional and loads of tears!
It will change v soon for you I’m sure. Your routine sounds good though I’d keep it going for when she gets to this stage :)

@lauren2809 what do you mean by self soothing?
