Sleepsuits vs blankets

Hi all
I've been doing some research this afternoon into what kind of blankets I'd need for a summer baby, and after reading all the safety precautions I've become convinced he's either going to suffocate on a loose blanket or suffocate on a sleep-suit that's too big 😩😩

Can anyone please give me some advice on which is the safest option, sleep-suits or blankets?

Do you mean a sleeping bag rather than a sleepsuit? You would probably need blankets to start with as sleeping bags have a minimum weight of about 8lbs I think.

We used blankets until DD was about 8 weeks and now use a sleeping bag. I didn’t think she was a bad sleeper anyway really but she sleeps so much better in the sleeping bag. The blankets were fine you just have to keep them at chest level and make sure arms over the top not underneath and that it’s tucked in at the sides.

I’d go with blankets at first then switch to a sleeping bag when baby a bit bigger, as pp said they do have weight limits so that’s something to bear in mind.

We’ve always gone blankets first and sleeping bag at 12 weeks ish. I found using the cellular/knitted blankets which are really breathable reassuring too.

We swaddled with large aden & anais muslins (you can Google hip-safe swaddling) with a cellular blanket over her from about belly button down (winter baby).

She had bad silent reflux and her startle reflex meant it was 5 months until we stopped swaddling and used sleeping bags.

We swaddled until she could roll (although not all babies like swaddling) and then used sleeping bags, a blanket wouldn’t have worked for my LO at night, she just kicked them off, even from a young age.

We use a sleeping bag that gives the feeling of being swaddled but it safer than swaddling. Google "swaddle up". I'm pretty sure you can use them from birth. We used ours from around 2 weeks and I would have checked. they're really lightweight so I wasn't worried about over heating, but in the summer you could just dress the baby lightly in them anyway. Get a gro clock too so you can always keep an eye on your room temperature
