Cot to toddler bed!

My 20 month old is not a great sleeper, always banging cot bars in her sleep but can get her self off, wakes up screaming after an hour then back to sleep again, 5 days ago I put her in a toddler bed, first night was great within 20 mins of exploring her room she was sound asleep all night, same the second night, since then it’s taken 3 hours to get her to sleep, she’s out the bed and at the gate screaming. Do I give up and buy her back in cot until she’s older or persevere . I have not been able to put her in her toddler bed at night and her stay in it until she drops off she’s always out and playing/crying. Nap times in day are not as bad as night and she’s usually asleep within 30 mins 😫

Persevere
Is the bed against the wall on one of the long sides? If it is, try pulling it out. If it isn’t, push it against one if possible. It might make a difference.
Try and make her new bed more appealing - perhaps use pillow spray, hang a wall-hanging night light on the wall next to the bed and put a hot water bottle in during this cold weather.
Read her a story once she’s in bed.

Yes her bed is against the wall on one side, I've tried reading her a story but she won't stay in bed keeps going to the gate on her door, she knows how to open the door to, on her nap time it takes less than half hour of exploring before she'll climb on her bed and go to sleep but night time she goes up about 6:15 and 9:25 she's still going strong crying or playing 😩

Currently going through the same. I've only done 2 nights and I'm already ready to jack it in. First night took 2 hours, last night 45 minutes, but that was only because I skipped his nap to ensure he was tired by bedtime.

DS is also 20 months, but we had to move to the cot bed as he climbed out of the cot 3 times the other night so I don't have much choice but to persevere.

Just about to start this with my 22 month old, he has been climbing out of his cot a few times.

I'm taking it down tomorrow and will be putting him in his bed.

Luckily my LG hasn't managed to climb out of her cot yet. She is 2 this month and I am keeping her in her cot as long as I can as I know she just won't go to sleep in a bed - she would be up and out of her room for hours at bed time. I waited until my son was nearer 2.5 years and I could explain things to him / he seemed ready and happy to settle in his big boy bed with a book and I never had any trouble with him.
