Night weaning 8 month old

DS is 8.5 months old and I'd like to start night weaning as he's still waking 3-4 times a night.

He's jumped centiles (50th to 91st) since introducing solids (on a good 3 square meals a day). He hasn't really dropped any milk feeds in the day, but he's breastfed so he could be taking a bit less maybe.

He used to wake around 13x a night up until 6 months, when we used control crying to great success. I was happy to feed him every two hours and would use CC if he woke up before the two hour gap was up. It worked quickly and well.

He can now go for 4/5 hours on the night without a feed, occasionally 6.

I'd like to get it down to 1 night feed, or none ideally. I just don't think he needs it. He's a biiiiiig happy baby.

How do I do it though? CC again but increase the gap from 2 hours to 4? We've tried pick up and put down methods in the past but he gets really frustrated. With CC he's back asleep within minutes.

I guess my question is what is your hesitation to use cc again? It seems to have worked previously so I'd be inclined to do it again...

Good question. No hesitation re CC really, just wondered if it was too early or whether others had success with giving water etc

Interested in this myself. DS2 was up four times last night (8.5m). DS1 was and still is a beautiful sleeper and I didn’t really have to do much. DS2 just won’t really nap in the day and is up so many times in the night. We’re both really overtired.

I don’t want to do CC or CIO but would love to know how other bf mums have managed to reduce the nighty wakings.

Like you OP we’ve seen a rose through the centile since food has come in, and he’s definitely getting enough calories in the day.

Ok so what worked with mine at around this age was gradual reduction. So I think your bf which means if you wanted to use this method you would need to choose 1 feed at a time and gradually reduce the amount of time you offer the breast. So if baby usually feeds for 12 minutes only offer 10 mins and reduce by 2 minutes a night until it's not worth baby waking up for. It's best to start with the first feed of the night after bedtime and then focus on the others after a week or two between not eating at previous times if you see what I mean? This worked a charm with my baby although we Were bottle feeding so just offered an ounce less formula every night. Once she got down to 2 oz, the next night she slept through until her next feed, after we stopped the second feed using the same method, she started sleeping right through the night 7.30-7. Has done ever since she is now 23 months! Good luck OP!

Also if baby is still awake after less milk at feed use cc until next wake up for milk HTH
