Am I crazy to ditch proper naps? 20 months

Ds2 is 20 months. He's napped brilliantly in his cot since 6 months - it took a lot of work but I had a mare with ds1 so stuck with it. Until Christmas he'd be happily taking 2-3 hour naps in there. Over Christmas separation anxiety hit and now he won't nap anywhere but on me and even that's a struggle.

I'm considering just stopping proper naps and instead he'll drop off for a quick one in the car and buggy while we get on with the day. Is this madness though, at 20m? I'm a big believer in naps, he is tired, and ds1 carried on until 3.5. But it's just an utter pain at the moment and don't know how to improve things.

How did you get him to nap in th cot initially?

It was sort of an accident. I was trying to transition to a cot by rocking in my arms and then putting him down when he was asleep. He was resisting, I was losing my mind, so I put him down in his cot and went off to take some deep breaths. He went to sleep Shock so after that I popped him down at nap time, let him grumble for a few mins, although he usually didn't, and he went off very happily.

Yesterday I tried returning to that sort of gradual reassurance method so lay down on the floor holding his hand through the cot so he was reassured I was there. He fucked about for an hour but that was it. He'd been up since 5am so was tired enough. I just think he doesn't want them anymore and forcing it is making us both grumpy.

It's a shame though.

How is he the rest of the day if he doesn’t nap? Can he manage on a short pram/car nap?
