Baby is asleep, but I'm wide awake!

First time mum here. My EBF 12 week old DD is now starting to go pretty decent stretches through the night without waking for a feed.. Usually 9pm through to 3am.. Because of general new parent tiredness and DD DP's working hours we are in bed pretty early (before 10pm)..

I am going to bed tired, and falling asleep, however I am finding that I am waking up about 2-3 hours after falling asleep even though DD is still fast asleep. I then find it really hard to get back to sleep, and can often be awake for 2+ hours in the middle of the night...

Has anyone else experienced this at all.. And more importantly, has anyone managed to combat it?

Yes, and it sucked. I think it was anxiety for me. What have you tried? I suggest getting up, having a glass of milk and a wee, then white noise/rainfall sounds to drown out the swirling mess of thoughts in your head. This will pass prob just in time for the 4 month sleep regression And congratulations on your baby Flowers

And in case you're wondering I am up because toddler DS is cough-cough-cough Mama-waaaaaah-cough, not insomnia :)

I'm the same and dd is currently going through sleep regression and is only sleeping 1-3 hours at a time. A few nights ago I was up from 1 - 5. My mind just races and I can't get to sleep I thought exhaustion would make it stop but it doesn't, seem like your literally too tired to sleep. Im slowly getting better. I think mine was anxiety too.

Hope you get some rest soon Smile

I found whenever my baby’s sleeping pattern changed I would have a while of being awake ‘waiting’ for baby to feed until My body got used to the new arrangement. Very annoying.

I assumed it is a special kind of mummy-alertness, designed to protect baby.

Cutting out caffeine completely 😱 helped.

I co-slept with dc3 and that was also better. I think the snuggles made both of us sleep better, although it is a very light kind of sleep. I’m not suggesting you start co-sleeping if you aren’t already though.
