Night terrors at 14 months?

Hello
I know the NHS say might terrors don’t tend to occur until ages 3, but has anyone else experienced them in younger children?
My son is 14 months, not the best sleeper but not the worst. On several occasions over the last few weeks, he has woken at around midnight screaming. It’s not a sound I hear him make at any other time. He doesn’t seem awake, but not fully asleep either. I pick him up (I know that’s not the right thing for terrors but I’m not sure at this point) and he thrashes around, gets more & more round up. At this stage the only way to ‘snap’ him out of it is to either switch the lights on & read some books or play a bit. Then he’s obviously definitely awake. Just hugging or trying to feed does nothing.

Next time it happens I’m going try leaving him to get through it I think (although this will be hard). But I wondered if anyone else has any experience of night terrors so young, or has another explanation? It’s very distressing. Thank you x
