6.5 month old suddenly crying for every sleep

Hi all, my baby has been self soothing, going down in cot awake and falling asleep on his own with just his white noise since 12 weeks. He would happily chat to himself for 5 mins. In the last 10 days he has started to cry at every single nap and even at bedtime which we’ve never had a problem with before. Has anyone else experienced this?
I’m totally at a loss with what to do, if I go in to comfort him it seems to start the whole process again but leaving him to cry feels dreadful, I have no idea if this is a normal regression? He’s started rolling on his tummy which seems to be how he likes to sleep but is not great at rolling back over. Any tips appreciated, any one been through the same- solidarity appreciated!

How long does he cry for? My DS will cry when I put him down for a nap, but only because I'm leaving him. Within 5-10 minutes he will settle and be absolutely fine, he just doesn't like me going!

has he started teething that can disrupt sleeping

Can be 15 minutes or so, last night was over half an hour, with me trying to settle him. He looks like he is teething but no teeth yet.

if his teeth are about to come in then hes going to be very grumpy .It can be really hard to find something that works for you.I would place my daughter to sleep in her bed and stroke her back for a wile before letting her self soothe .
