My daughter is 2 and 2 Months and still sleeps 45 minutes in the morning and 2 hours at lunch.

I know this isn’t ‘normal’ but should I be worried. I don’t know anyone with a toddler over two that still has two naps a day.

For extra info, she has been a bit delayed - crawling 13 months, walking at 21 Months, only says one word at a time/ can’t put two together.

We have been under paediatric observation for the other delays but they said she is doing well and have discharged now her.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

How is her night time sleep?

halpert · 22/01/2019 13:12

My son will be 2 next month and he has a good couple of hours at lunch time, honestly if she's sleeping soundly at night then I'd leave her to it. She will drop one or both when she's ready.

Enjoy it lol!!!!!! 😀

My daughter is exactly the same age as your little one! She only naps the once (at lunchtime) and sleeps between 2 and 4 hours sometimes. she sleeps through the night too no bother and goes to bed at 6:30pm.

All children are different. Sometimes my dd won't nap at all.

StuntCroissant · 22/01/2019 13:16

My DD is exactly the same age and has the same nap schedule. She also sleeps at least 12 hours through at night.

She also crawled & walked fairly early for her age (she's still only 10kg so I wondered if it was her size), so I don't think development is necessarily related.

I'm trying to get her to drop the morning nap as she's going to start nursery soon and it is beginning to make going to playgroups quite limiting!

I'd just go with it and remember that all toddlers are different.

Yes she sleeps from 6:30/7 until 6 or 7. Her brother often wakes her up though so I expect she would sleep later! She asks to go to bed at night easily and rarely wakes up.

I guess I just worry as most other children seem to drop the morning sleep before 18 months.

Thank you for taking the time to reply everyone. It’s always nice to have reassurance.

My little one is still a little way off being two (She’s nearly 18months) but she seems firmly stuck in the two nap pattern. She also sleeps from 7 - 6.30 ish so I figure if it works for her! Sadly her naps are often only 45 mins to an hour so quite jealous of your 2 hour nap!!

Nektaria · 23/01/2019 08:02

Hey. My DS is 21 months and he still takes two naps a day. He goes to bed no problem and mostly sleeps through aswell so I guess if it ain’t broke don’t fix it!
I too often worry since his peers have one nap a day but we shouldn’t compare, we should just enjoy it as others have said!

EssentialHummus · 23/01/2019 08:05

Might be because of her brother waking her? It sounds fine though - she likes her sleep!

Passthepigs · 23/01/2019 08:07

DS is 2 and 3 months and although one has one nap he has around 3 hours most days. He doesn’t fall asleep easily at night though and only sleeps 9-6am so needs the day time sleep.

LikeACowsOpinion · 23/01/2019 09:12

Now you've said it, she'll never nap again! Grin

Enjoy it while you can. My DD gave up naps just after she turned one and has been on the go ever since.

She sounds fine.

If it isn’t affecting her nighttime sleep I am with everyone else when I say ENJOY IT! She obviously is just at the higher end of the ‘sleep needs’ scale 🙂
