What time do your dc's get up in the morning?

My ds1 is 4 in Oct and gets up between 5 and 6 am every day and always has done. He wakes dd as well. Will he always wake this early? It isn't too much of a problem as he sleeps well all night I just wondered how he compared with others and if they change.

DS1 is 5 and he wakes up between 6am - 7am but is under Strict Instructions not to come into our room or wake his younger brother up until 7am. Ds2 is 3 and tends to sleep until 7am.

Do your dc share a room? In which case I can see that would be very difficult. If they're in separate rooms can you start putting some rules down about the morning?

When ds1 was about 4 we got him a very simple digital alarm clock from Argos and he knows the first number has to be a 7 before he can wake anyone up. This really helped.

Ds's have also both got tape players and they can play tapes in their rooms until it's time to get up as well.

dd1 - has always woken between 6 and 7, understrict instructions never to wake anyone else up till 7am

dd2 - 7-7.30am

dd3 - at the mo mainly 6am

this morning I had a lie in til 7.20 though wooot

They don't share a room. Ds1 doesn't seem to get it yet as we do ask him to play quietly. This doesn't happen and dd wakes up. I like the alarm clock idea but I'm not sure he could wait in bed. Worth a try though, thanks

It's hard as dd would sleep longer and if she wakes first she does play quietly for a while. Even ds2 sleeps in longer than ds1 most mornings! Ds2 is up about 6-6.30.

Both DS and DD wake about 6 - 6:15 - every morning. Like Dotty below, we have just acquired a bunny clock, and will get DS trained to not make noise/wake DD up till 7am.

question for Dotty though (sorry to jump your thread JodieG1) - how did you train your DS not to make noise? We are quite strict with our children, but kids are kids and more often than not they just do as they please, and so Im not sure the clock thing will work. I dont think it will be possible for DS (3.5 years) to keep quiet in the morning. I think I could manage to prevent him coming into our room....but to keep quiet

tips would be great.

JodieG1, your situation is EXACTLY the same as mine. Mine share a room (needs must at the moment), and DS wakes DD up.

I feel the samr wolfgirl, sure ds1 would just makes lots of noise. I've read mixed reports of the bunny clock one of which was that it's easy to break and that children just move the arms forward so the ears pop up. How are you finding it? I've considered getting one but not sure it would work.

dd1 (5.7) and ds (4.2) have to be woken up at 7.30am, even though they go to bed at 7pm. dd2 (9m) about 6am, but goes back to sleep for about an hour once had bottle.

If he's nearly 4 he should also respond to bribery?!

Favourite sweet in the morning if he makes it to 7am?

(ds2 is currently getting a jelly baby if he has dry pull ups in the morning - it's not that he can't go through, it's that the lazy little sod can't be bothered going to the loo in the morning when he wakes up, and the pull ups don't hold his morning wee!).

Wolfgirl - not sure really. Lots of threats and cross mummies?? Must admit ds1 is 'unusual' in that he responds very well to rules and if the rule is to keep quiet, he will. Ds2 is more 'ordinary' so thank goodness he usually sleeps later, or we'd have a lot more trouble!

He's not great with delayed gratification either. Think I might try that clock though.

urgh, we only just got the clock yesterday, so it will be interesting.

Dotty, am thinking about a reward chart too - I never ever wanted to resort to bribery, as I believe a child should do as the parent tells them, but kids are so waring and exhaust you beyond words can describe. I can be consistent for like 3/4 of the day, but about 3 or 4 oclock Im tired and brow beaten with the two of them, and I start to lose the even cool hand Luke temperament! Which is when the reward chart will come into its own - Im hoping. The kids start to get a bit tired by 4pm - I go first, then they start to follow. The whining is there ALL day, that never ceases LOL

we are on hols next week, so will try out new regime on our return - or heck! might just take the clock with us! magic idea

DS2 (20 months) anytime after 5 is normal.

DS1 (nearly 4) usually any time after 6.

5:25am today . urrgh. Now he hs napped for a total of 20mins and is crying/grizzling in his cot while i tear my hair out downstairs

DS1 (2.8) 9am on non playschool days
DS2 (0.8) 5am everyday

We wake 5yo DD up at about 6:50am on my work days (Tues-Thurs) so she can say goodbye before I leave at 7am, and for me to do her hair for school. She goes mad if I don't say goodbye. On a Mon/Fri I wake her about 7:30am, although she may wake herself from about 7:15am.

At weekends the time she gets up is depemdent on when she went to bed. She tends to sleep for 11-12 hours, so if she has a late night, we get a lay in.

Luckily DD has never been an early riser.

dd1 would sleep til lunchtime everyday if she could, she is 15, but on schooldays i have to wake her about 7.45

dd2 also likes sleeping in so i wake her at the same time, weekends probably up about 9.30

ds1 is up at 7 every morning, weekdays he gets his breakfast and himself dressed before any of us are up!

ds2 is usually up about 7.30 -8 ish everyday

7 on a school day 8 or 8:30 most other days

Since going into a bed DS has woken earlier than usual -now about 6.15-6.30.

DD seems to wake around 7.

I wish they would lie in at weekends but they never do. If they do have a weird flukey morning where they both sleep beyond 7 you can guarantee its a school and nursery day so we have to wake them eg. on Monday, after a late night Saturday, we had to virtually drag them out of bed!
