Is this normal? Waking every 3-4 hours at 8months through night!

Since we hit 6 months and weaning my LO keeps waking through the night for food.
She is in a good routine now with food- 3 meals a day and trying to encourage some snacks in between.
My HV adviced me to give her porridge before her bed time bottle to fill her up but she is still waking 3-4 hours every night. Like most parents that babies wake through the night I feel drained as not only her waking for food, she can sometimes wake just to be reassured as she is now in her own room.(which she has took to really well)
My HV says that with eating 3 meals a day she expects my LO to be drinking 18oz. And too be fair it's not overly much more.
So depending when I put her to bed, I used to put her to bed around 7.30 but felt like there are loads of feeds I.e 11.30/12 if I am lucky then waking again 3.30/4.
I aim for her to be in the bath by 7.30 and have her bottle by 8-8.30 as this then reduces the night feed but she is always up around 12 and 4 for the feed.

Is anyone else baby going through this, is this normal ?
Also if your baby was to wake at 4 for feed would you then either give another 'breakfast bottle' first if they are eating solids or give them breakfast-ie weetabix then maybe a bottle?

I am open to any advice as I feel stuck in a rut of not knowing what to do for the best.
I have tried control crying which doesn't really work as it ends up waking my 5 year old up which then I have the two of them awake.
Thanks for reading g this post, look forward to your reply. xx

Based on my experience that is perfectly normal for an eight month old (in fact mine woke more than that during the night at that time and, I’m afraid, later).

I’m no expert on formula feeding but just wanted to say you’re not alone.

Every 2 hours here till 18 months

Orangedaisy · 19/01/2019 05:25

Totally normal. One of mine was every hour for a bit at 10 months.

Her0utdoors · 19/01/2019 05:44

That sounds normal (and exhausting). Has she started crawlig/cruising/whatever physical development is next? She may be extra hungry whilst this is happening and will go for longer stretches soon.

Thanks for all your replies. Gosh I am not alone on this , tas it has at least reassured me. Think what kills me the most is that the bottle she has at 4 after that she only sleeps for about an hour or two. It's hard going and by the sound of it, it hard going for us all.

As for the crawling... no she is so lazy. She is pulling herself up and trying to move her self when on her tummy. She is not even rolling. I try and encourage tummy time throughout the day but she loves sitting and then stretching out for toys. It's hard as she is my second baby and is completely different from my first. So feel like this on rolling, no sleep, waking up through the night is all new to me.

Any one got any opinions on if she has the 4am bottoe would you give her another bottle at 7/8 or breakfast. I have just been giving breakfast as feel that would be too much milk. Gosh she is chunky enough without added extra milk. As I know if I spoke to the HV I don't think she would class the 4 am bottle as her morning bottle, so interesting to hear your opinion on this. Thanks xx

Hi. My baby is 8 months old and had a bottle at 10pm, 2ish, 4/5ish and then wakes up about 8/9am. I am not help but wanted to reply In solidarity.

With regards to the early morning bottle. I would not give food (I do give milk) because I don’t want to encourage her to think it’s time to get up but this is just my opinion and based on my baby.

8m old DS2 here and a very similar pattern. Down between 7-7.30, up at around 1 for a feed, then again at either 4ish or 6ish for another. If 4 then he gets a feed and another before breakfast. If 6 then no we feed then get breakfast about 8. He’s boob fed but similar to what you describe. DS1 was going through without a feed by 6m so it’s very different this time around.

In answer to your question, I would still give a bottle before breakfast.

I just worry that she is having too much milk as she is having 3 meals a day too. The hv are obsessed with me cutting most of her bottles out. Xx

I think there can be a sleep regression in line with a couple of developmental leaps between 8-10 months old. My boys sleep was really sh*t there for a while and he was waking more often, hopefully its settled now but i dont copmpare anymore or expect it of him, just take one night at a time!
My son was similar and at 10.5 months now he has only dropped one bottle and still has 3 meals a day. He loves his bottles.
Your babys main source of nutrition before 1 is milk so the HV shouldnt go on at her dropping bottles. There is a saying 'food before one, is just for fun'.

Seeline · 21/01/2019 09:51

Mine was back on 2 hourly feeds throughout the whole 24 hours. And wouldn't take a bottle. Or a cup. That was fun 😁 It does get better.

Jackshouse · 21/01/2019 09:53

Nope. In my experience babies wake more often than that. You have one of the sleeping kinds.

LaurieMarlow · 23/01/2019 10:22

Lordy, mine is the same age as yours and waking every 90 mins through the night. It's a shock because his big brother was a much better sleeper.

Your set up sounds like a dream to me.

My DS is very similar at night time, he is 9 months. We moved him into his own room a few weeks ago to see if this improved things, which it didn’t and he was still up 3 times a night for milk feeds so we had a hv come out to chat about his routine. He was having lots of bottle feeds as preferred this to food however having persevered with cutting some out he seems a bit better..
He has breakfast at 7.30 ish depending on when he wakes, bottle at around 10 and a nap, a snack when he wakes up around 11, lunch at 12.30ish.
He then has a bottle at about 2 -3pm, sometimes another nap, then a snack in the afternoon and dinner at 6-6.30.
He has a bottle before bed after his bath and is generally asleep (puts himself to sleep mostly now) at 8.30.
The last week he has gone down to just the 1 bottle at night about 2.30 am.
I actually think that cutting a couple of bottles out has helped massively.
However, he has also in the last couple of weeks started crawling properly and standing up! He was also Very lazy with rolling, crawling etc and literally started doing it all within a few days so I wonder if this has changed things. I think it’s a case of hanging in there as what you are doing sounds fab.. just thought I would share my experience!

Tackytriceratops · 25/01/2019 10:26

I wish it was 3-4 hours.

Last night it was hourly or more. 2 - 3 hours is an excellent night here.

But he's attempting to crawl, coast and teething all at once.

Yawn.

Mummyme87 · 25/01/2019 23:30

12m old here wakes approx 10-12 times a night, had 26 wakes between 10-7 the other night. Broken.

I could only dream of 3-4hr stretches
