Newborn not sleeping enough?

DD is 8 weeks, read she should be having 16 hours sleep in 24 hours. I’m tracking with an app and she’s only getting 12-13 Confused Thought she was a good sleeper, settles easily, generally happy and chilled. What do I do?

Nothing - your baby hasn’t read the book. If she’s happy and healthy then follow her lead

Get rid of the app seems the obvious solution.

I also worried about this when mine was a newborn. She is 7 months now, a pretty good sleeper now and it didn't affect anything when she was younger. In fact, I just worked myself up for literally no reason and I wish I'd just been more confident to trust my baby. I second getting rid of the app.

I drove myself mad with this. If she is happy she is getting enough. Honestly. You'll know if she is tired.

Your baby is on the cusp of 'new born' technically

They progress at different rates.. can't all be by the book

None of mine ever slept as much as the books said they should. I currently have a 6 day old who will happily stay awake for an hour/hour and a half at a time. If she seems happy and rested then it’s fine!

Thanks for the reassurance. She does have a couple of fussy hours round dinner when she wants to cluster feed and sometimes seems mire tired then? But otherwise a cheerful girl.
