I have a similar problemSad My daughter is 3 and will go to sleep in her own bed but, like you, will get up 1am/3am/5am. She always has an excuse like needing a wee/drink/cuddle. I’m exhausted. In fact today I have put the baby gate back on her door. I’m not sure why because I will still have to go to her! But makes me sleep better knowing she is contained.

I’m also making sure all basis are covered. So wee is done, little drink before bed and cuddle. Then I’m not engaging in the night, I will just lead her back to bed (probably put her on the loo). I won’t get cross or say anything.

Do you let your toddler stay with you? If so that probably needs to stop

We try and put him back in his bed but he will cry and wants to lay right next to me it's getting really hard to keep him in his bed

Mine never slept in bed with us but we did used to bring her in for cuddles at the weekend in the morning...just that is enough for her to want to be with us all night. Sounds like you need to have a week of absolute firmness...just keep leading back to bed. Don’t give in to crying. If you give in then they really won’t stop.

Or you can just accept co sleeping for now. If it doesn’t impact your sleep. I know people who happily co sleep with older kids. I just never could. Can barely stand sharing a bed with my husband let alone a child as well Grin

It’s really hard when they cry, it is heartbreaking.

Tonight, I followed our bedtime routine to the letter. I also explained to my daughter that she must stay in her bed and if she gets out of her bed I will just put her on the toilet. I told her there would be no drinks in the night. I also should her that her gate was back on and explained why. She understands more than she lets on!

I would wait for the weekend or a time when the sleeplessness will impact you less. Then I would, frankly, just go for it. Explain that there will be no more sleeping in your bed. Then resolve to stick with it. Yes he will scream, cry etc. Yes there will be some looooong nights.

You don’t have to let him cry though. I sometimes used to sit on the her bedroom floor and shush her so she knew I was there. But whatever you do you can’t give in. Not at this age. So I would wait until you can make a big effort. Take it in turns with your partner maybe?

We will have to try something I just can't deal with this anymore
