First time mum to a DD who is 8 months now. She was in a next to me crib until about 6.5 months. Before she was born my mum had bought her a nice travel cot (DD dad lives abroad, so we travel to see him alot) so when DD became too big for the next to me, I just bought a good mattress and have been using it in the travel cot. That's where she sleeps. But I feel like I need to get her an actual cot. I've saved money and I am going to look in January for a good cot bed. (Hopefully find a good sale) but my question is; what height do I put the cot at? The ones I've been looking at are cot bed that can be set at 3 different heights and then obviously change to a toddler bed when they're older.
When do I change the cot to the bed setting, without the bar? I'm so new to all this and it may sound silly to ask these questions, but my DB and his gf have my nephew, who is turning 1 this month, in a standard single bed next to their bed and has been for about 2 months now. I thought they had to be in a cot for alot longer than that. My DD likes to roll around so I would need the bars for her.

Lowest height to start with so they don't go over the bars when standing and we didn't move to a bed until 2 and a half years old with ds (Dd was 2)

Its up to you really. Mine were in standard singles from around 15-18 months because they weren’t massive fans of the cot. A lot of people don’t move them until closer to three. Whatever works for you.

DD was in a standard cot from 4 to 6 months, then in my bed until 20 months until she moved into a proper bed.

My 18 mths old is in a cot on the lowest height because he can stand/walk/climb and he will be staying in a cot until it's not safe ie he can climb out.

My 6 month old is in a cot on the highest height and we will move it down once she can pull herself to sitting and move around.

Also checkout eBay or similar for cot beds.
I got dds for £31 and it's really good!

Ds went into his as a cot on the highest setting at 5 months, it was on the middle setting by the time he was 10 months and on the lowest at about age 1. We changed it into a bed when he started to climb out (just gone 2) and recently (almost 3) we changed to a single bed.
