Question for co-sleepers

My 7mo started off sleeping well in his bedside nest but after a bout of Bronchiolitis, he will only sleep next to me at night. I'm ok with co-sleeping for now but my question is, what do you do with your babies in the early evening?
Do they stay with you downstairs?
On you?
In a cot?
At the moment I'm sitting on the sofa with him on me every night until we go to bed but this isn't going to work after Xmas when I'm back to work and will undoubtedly have to work in the evenings.
Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I always put DD down in her cot in her own room in the hope she'll stay there. She inevitably doesn't so then ends up in with me. Our general rule is if she wakes before 9.30 ish in the evening then we settle her back in her cot. After 9.30 I just go up to bed and take her in to bed with me.

We're lucky though that she will at least sleep in her cot for some of the evening. Not sure what I'd do otherwise - I don't think I'd feel comfortable putting her down in my bed when I'm still downstairs x

I can't really offer any advice as my 7 month old won't settle to sleep on her own at all. I keep her on me then do an early bedtime. I just keep experimenting, I can sometimes put her down after she falls asleep but she only lasts one cycle.

I hope you have better luck

My children are 10 and 13 now but coslept with both. We ended up lying down with them on our bed until they were asleep then going back downstairs. It was fine, it worked. You will find a way that suits you.

I feed our 7 month old to sleep on our bed around 8.30pm, then come back downstairs. He normally sleeps fine on his own for an hour or so and then I go up to bed

Snapsnapsnap · 17/12/2018 21:07

Cot until I go to bed-sorry not that helpful. DC is too mobile to leave on our bed alone, as yours soon will be. I've seen people on here suggest a floor mattress for the baby-you lie in with them then leave when they drop off (to sleep, not the bed!)

I used to just sit upstairs with dd2 when she was tiny. Once I went back to work she was so shattered from nursery she would go down in the cot and wake up around the time we went to bed so coslept from that point.

My DS is 9 months old. I feed him to sleep on my bed and then roll away. I go downstairs with the video monitor on. When he first wakes up about 9 or 10 I go to bed with him.

I always put mine down in the cot to start with and then once I was in bed and they woke up I’d bring them in with me. I always did better if I had a bit of an evening on my own so it worked for us doing it this way.

Verbena87 · 17/12/2018 21:14

Cot side-carred to our bed, feed him to sleep in it then either work in bed or box him in with rolled up duvet and put the monitor on. There was an awkward phase where he could climb over the duvet-sausage but not get down safely from the bed, so then one of us would work up in the spare room where we could be there in seconds. Now he can climb on and off the bed by himself it’s less of a worry again.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 17/12/2018 21:17

No way could I leave my 7mo on the bed as he is very mobile and wakeful and would roll or commando crawl off the bed before I could get upstairs to him. I find that the one time of day he will transfer into the cot is in the evening as he sleeps differently - more tired maybe? Then when he wakes at 21.30-22.30 I go to bed with him

slothandsloth · 17/12/2018 21:31

Feed to sleep on my bed and then head downstairs with the video monitor. Dd sleeps in a bag, it slows her crawling down so if she wakes I get to her before she's moved too much.

DwayneDibbly · 17/12/2018 21:39

Into cot and then in with me, depending on whether I'm able to get her back to sleep easily. I can't leave my DC alone on the bed so depending on whether my DP is home, I sometimes go to bed early with them.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 17/12/2018 23:45

Op are you able to put your mattress on the floor? It’s not an option for me but it would make it safer to get baby to sleep and roll away, leaving them on the mattress

padpadmama · 18/12/2018 19:18

I've coslept since day one with my now 5m old baby boy. I used to go to bed at 7 when he does and watch stuff on my phone/iPad whilst he sleeps. But now that he's a bit older I stick the baby monitor on once he's asleep then go downstairs (though I often end up watching him on the monitor all night 😂)

Beansprout30 · 18/12/2018 22:47

My dd Is six months and up until the week she was sleeping on me downstairs but we're now getting her down upstairs and joining her at 10 ish
