Almost 8 month old started to only sleep on my chest!

So, first time mum to an almost 8 month old boy now.
He’s been an absolute god-send with sleep, from 8 weeks, he’s been going through the night with either 1 or no feeds and hardly any sleep training. He was happy to self soothe to sleep.
But, that all changed about 2 days ago. He’s started to really scream the house down after about 15 minutes in his cot, and will only calm down and sleep if he’s laying on my chest. Even if I calm him, and put him back when drowsy, he will cry inconsolably until picked up again. Sometimes I get lucky and he’ll fall asleep for 30 mins but will wake up and cry inconsolably until he’s back on my chest in my bed. Strangely, he’s fine during day naps in the cot.
His bedtime routine hasn’t changed at all. Only thing that’s different is that he’s developed a snotty nose, but this isn’t the first time he’s had one and hasn’t acted like this with previous ones.
I’m not sure if it’s teething, he isn’t really dribbling more than normal/chewing on anything more than normal.
I don’t know if this is a symptom of separation anxiety / 8 month regression?

Basically, I’m clutching at all straws to what it could be without some advice or reassurance that I’m not the only one and that this is a phase
Sad

My 7 month old started doing this, he'd be put down drowsy at 630 and wake screaming half hour later. He is now 8 months and it's sort of worn off. He just needs that extra feed then he's out cold. It was worse when he was poorly. I literally don't know why he suddenly started doing it. How long do you leave ds? If I know he's changed, fed etc etc, I normally leave him to cry 10 mins and he's starts rubbing his eyes and drifts off

I thought he was upset for another feed, but he rejects it every time so it definitely wasn’t hunger for my little one. I also checked the usual change nappy / temperature, but everything was fine.
I’ve only left him for a couple of minutes, because it was one of those piercing cries that I’ve never heard him do before these past few nights. Even holding him and trying to soothe him doesn’t work for about 10/15 minutes sometimes!

My 8m is doing the same.. exactly the same story. Great sleeper who now needs holding to sleep.

He also has two tiny teeth poking through!! Let's hope it's just teething woes because this is a new form of torture for us both.

My 7 month old is the same! He always wakes several times to feed during the night and initially goes down to sleep ok, but after about 3am he will only sleep on me and wakes as soon as I transfer him back to his cot. As soon as I pick him up and lie him on my chest he is instantly asleep again! So no advice I'm afraid, but I will follow with interest (and hope).
