Help 5 children!

Hi all! New here. I have five children aged 9-14 months. I am desperately trying to get my DD (14mnths) to settle down by herself. I have tried leaving her to cry and going back in at timed intervals but she screams for hours which means the other children don't go to bed till late. I gave up after a week. Also as im on my own now it means I have to leave the other four downstairs which I do not like doing. My DD needs a better routine as she is still waking 3-4 times of a night. I know this is only out of habit but im desperate. All of the others just seemed to fall into a routine. Any advice please.

5 children! I thought I had a job getting two down. Sorry can't offer any advice except is it possible to leave the 14 month til last then take her downstairs keeping her noisyness as far away from the others as possible until she is nearer to going to sleep? Does she have a time to get sleepy that you can recognise? Best of luck.

Could you have her in with you for a while to at least tackle the night time wakings - a quick pat or cuddle to send her off again would be easier if she was right there.

I've only got one, dd is 10 months, so I'm afraid I'm not qualified to help, I just wanted to send you good wishes and hope a mumsnetter can help you, my heart goes out to you.

I had a similar problem with no.3 of 4 and ended up strapping him in his buggy until the older two were asleep. Sometimes he was sleeping by that time anyway through boredom. At first I had him in the livingroom with the television but decided he was enjoying that too much. I ended up having him in the hall facing a cupboard door which was really boring He eventually learned it was no fun not to go to bed
