5 month old rolling over- waking up every hours. Help!

Basically as the title says.

Sleep went awful at 3.5/ 4 months, I put it down to sleep regression but nothing is improving.

To make matters worse, we put her down on her back. She will only sleep on her side so rolls to her side when put down, then in the night she rolls onto her front- wakes herself up and gets distressed as she can’t work out how to move back.

Any advice? Will this ever end? Sad

Ahh spelling errors. That’s sleep deprivation for you!

Put her down on her side with her arms in front of her? Just wondering if she gets one pinned under her when she rolls to her front...

It's not a quick solution but do lots and lots of tummy time during the day. The sooner she learns how to roll from front to back, the sooner this will stop being an issue.

Thanks for your suggestions. Smile

She does know how to roll from front to back- she actually did that before back to front. But now she’s learned this new skill she seems to have forgotten how to roll back again.

Another bad night last night, at 8 weeks she slept for 9 hours! I want that back so badly.

Sleep can be such a pain, I feel for you! Sometimes when they learn a new skill, they try it while sleeping which disturbs them. The recommendation is to give them a lot of opportunities to practice while awake. It may not be the getting stuck on her front that is waking her, but the general turning and practising. My DS did the same.

Mine did this at 6 months. Kept rolling over distressed and waking up crying every hour or so. It passed after about a month. She is now 11 months old and sleeps through on her tummy or side. She wakes up crying on her back.

Last few nights have been a bit better. She seems to be getting better at moving herself around to get comfortable, and has even settled to sleep on her front a couple of times!

You just have to ride the wave. Both of mine have been like this until the could settle themselves on their fronts/sides. I've just come out of 6 weeks of sleep hell with DC2 who is 6mo.

Is she in a sleeping bag?

PerfectPeony · 10/12/2018 16:06

Yep pasta she’s in a sleeping bag. She moves around so much a cover just wouldn’t work. That gives me hope! DD is almost 5 months 2 weeks and the sleep hell nap fighting seems to be dying down.. we’ll see what tonight brings though. 😅

Great advice with the tummy time practise, it does seem to be helping. It’s funny how quickly they start turning over once they have practised a few times.
