Baby rolling on side while sleeping

Managed to get the baby (nearly 9mo) to sleep in his cot for once. Popped in to check on him and totally freaked out that he was sleeping on his side. When I tried to roll him into his back he woke up and cried.

Is it safe for him to sleep on his side? I’m such a nervous parent, I’m terrified something will happen to him.

It's fine.. my DD has always been happiest on her side..

When they are rolling it’s fine. My 8 month old has slept on his front since 12 weeks (and now rolls all over the cot)
