Unsettled second half of night

Hi,
My baby is nearly 5 weeks old and most of the time, she's a relatively good sleeper. We're breast feeding on demand, apart from one bottle of formula at the last feed before bed. For the first stint, she normally sleeps around 3-4 hours but then when she wakes for the middle of the night feed, she's started to become really unsettled. She's started fussing on the boob and draws her legs up so I think it's wind but we're winding her and giving her Infacol and it doesn't seem to be helping. I will feed her until she is milk drunk but as soon as we put her down, she wakes up or wakes a short while after and it all begins again. I don't really want to co sleep with her for safety reasons but we have done this a few times but the last few nights this isn't working either. I thought she might just want to be close but she just seemed upset and unsettled. I don't get why this second part of the night is unsettled. We're not doing anything differently to the rest of the time. Any advice would be much appreciated. I hate seeing her unsettled x

It sounds like normal Newborn behaviour tbh. Sorry that's not much help. It passes.

Yeah, newborns have notoriously bad gas and tummy pains. If she's having a bottle before bed she could be sucking in more air that she normally does while bfing. Could also be the formula itself is hard on her tummy.

I would've thought she would have the bad gas sooner though if it was the bottle or the formula itself? She sleeps really well after that feed, it's the middle of the night breast feed when she seems to be really unsettled and in pain with wind. In the end, she slept on DH chest. I tried to persevere with putting her down in her crib but in the end had to give up

It’s normal and it passes by around 12 weeks. The formula won’t be doing his digestion any favours though, it slows everything down and can make them constipated.

wgst bottle are you using? Could you try the MAM anti colic one? It has some weird thing in it that aids the airflow to stop them getting colic so bad.

Aside from that, normal unfortunately.

Sleeping on his chest is really dangerous, I know you know this, it's so hard. It will get better.
