8 month old waking in the night

My 8 month old son sleeps around 11-12 hours of a night which is great, however, most nights he is still waking up for a feed, he was having 5oz which I have reduced to 4oz and he goes back to sleep after that but does he need this feed as some nights he just sleeps right through? I have tried giving him water to settle him instead of formula but it doesn't work. Should I reduce the amount of formula again or try and Cut out the feed all together?....

My one year old still wakes for a feed in the night, I just go with it at the moment because if she didn't need it she would sleep through. When she does wake she has about 7oz. It helps her sleep the rest of the night and sometimes longer into the morning (Until 7:30/8ish if I'm really lucky)

Thanks for your reply. That's great baby's sleeping so well! It just baffles me why some nights he can go without a bottle but others he wants one, so is it that he actually needs one or is he waking because he knows he can get up and have a bottle ? X

My thinking is that he needs it, at such a young age I don't think they can be deceptive. If he was only taking a tiny bit of milk then maybe he needs winding or just a cuddle. And he's still so young, waking just once is good going as far as I'm aware. My daughter goes through phases of sleeping through then waking once/ twice a night, she tends to down a bottle when it's offered plus I get secret midnight cuddles (sounds twee I know, but thinking about it like that helps me get out of a nice warm bed at 2am!)

Yes I think your absolutely right and it is really great that he does sleep well, I do feel lucky as I know some babies wake several times throughout the night. I was just worried about giving him a bottle that he doesn't need and this carrying on for a long time because obviously at some point he should stop having night feeds altogether. Thank you for your advice it has helped :)
