4 month old used to sleep through, now waking a lot to feed starving!

Hiii,

My 4 month old (4 months 2 days if that makes any odds) has been sleeping through from around 10pm-9am give or take 1 feed since she was 5 weeks old, up until around now.

She is going through a big leap at the moment according to the wonder weeks, and has started sitting on her own for short periods, and we can see several teeth (although this has been the case for about a month+) but this doesn't seem to be the reason for her waking up at night.

She has been waking more and more each night for around the last week, last night waking 5 times for a feed! She feeds for around 10-15 mins, then goes back to sleep so isn't up unsettled or anything but poor me has got so used to a good night's undisturbed kip I'm not prepared for that to change 😂

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks!! (First time mumma here)

4 month sleep regression. It nearly broke me. Twice. Went on for a few months too before things settled again.

Sounds completely normal for that age, unfortunately! I'd roll with it for now, there is a huge amount going on developmentally which leads to the unsettled sleep and multiple feeds.

Google the 4 month sleep regression. My DS was sleeping brilliantly till then, he's now nearly 10 months and his sleep is still crap. I think it's something to do with them moving to proper sleep cycles instead of sleeping like a newborn. It's painful!

Thanks both X

My son is 4 months and wakes every single hour for a feed!! (Nipples are going to fall off soon I recon!)
I'm excited, I cry daily (more at night) I'm fed up, miserable and generally just a
Moody cow 😐

I have no idea why he's doing this..... so I feel your pain!!
Only support I can give is that I'm usually on here every hour if you need a chat! Haha! Xxx

Went on for a few months too before things settled again.

@MaraScottie you're giving me hope. 6.5 mo and we had a few good nights between 4 and now... maybe 2?!

I find I have to cosleep and boob all night.

Tell me this is ok!

MaraScottie · 26/11/2018 08:19

That is completely ok and exactly what I did! Just ride it out and hopefully it'll continue to get better.

My 23 week old DS went through the sleep regression for a good couple of weeks and it only began to get better 2 weeks ago when he begun sleeping through again! Now he's back to square one with being up.
Babies are so unpredictable and it seems once you come out of one leap or regression, another one starts!
We've got no choice but to carry on as mothers but jeeeez its exhausting! I'm currently sat on a wooden floor at 2:30am as my DS is not wanting to settle down again.
Do what you can to make your life easier, the only advice I can give is stick to an early bedtime and keep consistency. They will come out the other side Thanks

I mean he went through it for a good couple of months! I wish it was a few weeks instead of weeks! Confused

DrWhy · 27/11/2018 02:35

I have a photo of DS with his ‘I slept through the night’ milestone card at about 3 months. Two weeks or so later the regression hit. It was a year before he slept through again, now at 2.2 he still wakes at least once almost every night!
Sorry to be the bringer of bad news...!
