Why do I bother with bedtime?!

My 8 month old has never been a good sleeper. She bf at least 2 hourly round the clock til 6 months and then would sometimes sleep for a 4 hour block at night. I resorted to bedsharing which has continued. I do still get the 4 hour block quite often (thanks heavens because i'm back at work 2 days a week for 14 hours each day) but bedtime is just so all over the place it feels pointless.

At 6:30 -7 pm (depends on when she woke up and how tired she is) I take her upstairs, change nappy, PJ'S, stories, sleeping bag, bf to sleep and if i'm lucky transfer to cot so I get an hour to myself. More often than not I end up getting into bed with her or taking her back downstairs. She is currently teething though. She used to sleep through noises but now if my husband goes to the loo she wakes. Also if i've been at work I don't get home til 8:30 pm so her bedtime happens about 9pm which screws every thing up.

I've tried putting down drowsy but awake on and off for months and it fails. She stands up and cries every time. She stood up at 5 months old. She's now cruising and climbing, I fear walking is not far away.

So we bedshare, feed to sleep, bf back to sleep 2-4 hourly, have irregular naps (2-3 per day 30 mins to 2 hrs). Eating is totally hit and miss too, some days 3 meals, other days mainly bf or EBM if i'm at work.

I want to have some sort of predictability but 48hrs into gentle sleep training she started teething and we stopped. I can't do CC and neither will my husband. It's just not for us.

After the teeth cut through.....Where do I start? Bedtime routine change? Tackle the bedsharing? Night weaning? Feeding to sleep? Naps? Or just muddle along and wait for her to want to sleep in her own bed? Help!

Shaping a routine can be hard! Can dh do bedtime on the nights that you work, if she is willing to take a bottle of EBM? With regard to naptimes, the 1st of the day is the most important (and easiest) so maybe just try those two...
