Taking away dummies

Hi,

I've tried to look for advice on when and how it's best to take dummies away. DD is coming on to 15 months old now and has only had her dummy for nap times and bed times for about the last 6 months now. I don't want to be in a situation where we're still giving a dummy past 18 months old (my original goal was 12 months old) however she heavily relies on it to get her to sleep.

We're starting today by trying to take the dummy away at one nap time working our way up to both naptimes by Xmas (we're going away at Xmas and it's going to be quite a stressful time for everyone so don't want to be giving it up entirely before then).

I've read a lot about taking dummies away before they're really reliant at about 6 months and then a lot about taking it away when they're 2/3/4 years old when they can understand why.

Does anyone have any tips or advise on how to do this?
