10 month old still needs 3 naps.

Ok, I need some suggestions / advice about what to do with DD. I realize at this point she should be on 2 naps a day, but we just can't seem to crack it. We've been trying for 3 weeks to eliminate the late afternoon nap and it's making her night sleep even worse than it was before, I think.

She NEVER naps longer than an hour, and that would be a long nap for her. She's usually asleep for anywhere between 30-45 minutes and sometimes it's as short as 20 minutes. Stretching her awake times doesn't matter, I've tried it all.

So, today for example:

Awake 530 (Ugh)
Nap #1 8-830
Nap #2 1200-1230

Today she fell asleep in the car at 330, so she obviously needed the nap. If she hadn't taken the third nap she would only get 1 hour of daytime sleep, on-top of a terrible night sleep with lots of waking. I am struggling so much as she's completely knackered and a tired cranky mess by 5 or earlier, and I would really like to get her to bed a bit later but she just can't do it if her last nap ended at 1230 that's way too much of an awake time.

Suggestions ?

How are you getting her to sleep at night and how does she sleep at night?

She's a terrible sleeper at night. She's rocked until sleepy and then put to bed where she drifts off on her own most of the time

I think you need to count up the total sleep and if you can't get two long naps then stick with 3 short ones.

When my DS was 10 months he also had 3 naps at about the same time as your baby. Some babies just need the sleep.

I'm sleep training my 10 month old now (controlled crying) and since I've been doing that she's been having better, longer naps in day. Was having 2 or 3 naps in day before 30 mins in morning and 1.5hours in afternoon but 50% of the time that afternoon nap was 45 mins and she needed a cat nap around 4:30pm. Not ideal. It's been 3 days and she's now sleeping 1.5 hours in morning and 1.5 hours in afternoon. It's delightful!

I cracked it by waking my son after sleeping for 20 mins on the morning nap. Then he was tired enough at the lunch nap. I had to stay in for a week to crack it.
