4 year old won’t fall asleep alone

My just 4 year old won’t go to sleep on his own. I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. I can be sat with him for up to an hour every night and I’m done, I’m so done. I end up getting cross most nights because I’m exhausted. Something has to change. Any suggestions

try moving further away every 2 days. eg: day 1, you stay in his room. day 3, you go into your room (keep bedroom door open and hall light on) day 5, you go further again (downstairs/into kitchen) but keep the door of the room you are in open and keep the hall light on.
