5 month old and possible sleep regression

Hi,

LO is nearly 5 months. I suspect we've been going through the sleep regression for the past month.

She used to go from 7pm - 1am, feed and back down until 4am, feed and back down till 7ish (or till screaming toddler broke through her dreams!).

Now she's waking every 2-3 hours until 4am when she either cat naps or is wide awake. She'll sometimes then fall asleep again at 6.30 ish.

She's also crying almost solidly from around 4pm till bedtime. I'm beginning to struggle.

I'm feeding her every time she wakes so my nipples are agony (she's ebf and won't take a bottle).

My questions really are - does this sound like the sleep regression? Would you feed at each wake up? I feel like after 3 hours sleep she's probably hungry but the other times??? Is there potentially an issue with her sleep cycles/ability to get herself back to sleep?

If this is as it should be then I'll just get through it but I don't want to 'blame' the sleep regression when actually she needs something different from me.

Thanks.

I tried the pick up put down method at 5 months with suspected sleep regression and it seemed to work (or she grew out of it). We also started white noise and a dummy in the evenings to help her calm and relax as part of the bedtime routine. Until the sleep regression, bedtime hadn't been very same-y but I read having a set order of the same things helped them know how to relax for the evening and it did seem to help

Thanks Reccy. LO won't take a dummy unfortunately so I can't try that but will read up on the pick up, put down approach. I think we have quite a good bedtime routine to sign post bed and she falls asleep really easily. It's just getting her to stay asleep for any length of time that's a problem! I know it might be one of those we just need to ride out but I guess I'm just looking for that silver bullet that solves it all for us!

Reading with interest as I'm in a similar position. Sorry but what do mean by the pick up put down approach? Is it what it says on the tin?

This sounds just like my 5 month old, so similar with timings etc. She's never been a good sleep so I just hope she will grow out of it..... fingers crossed. I use white noise and a dummy, limited success. Just keep swimming just keep swimming!!
