4 month old covering face and won't stop

Hi
My 4 month old has a fleece blanket that gets him to sleep. He wont sleep without it. He settles in the night when he wakes up if he can feel it there, but I'm worried about him continuing to pull it over his face. I take it off when I go to bed and move it to the bottom of his cot but if he can't feel it, he won't settle and if he wakes up it takes an hour or so to get him back down.
Any ideas? I thought about somehow atttachin3it to the bars of his cot so he can feel it but not pull at it. Would that work?
Any help would be appreciated. He's smack bang in the 4 month sleep regression so any help he can give me with settling himself would be a god send!

It has an animal head on it that I can poke through the bars to maybe stop him pulling it over his face. But do you think he'd go hell for leather trying to pull it and end up with it anyway?!!

Tie it to the bars or can you get a really small one? Or maybe you could sew/safety pin one onto the sheet or his pyjamas far enough away that it won't go on his face?

Cut it up to make it much smaller? Like facecloth sized?

I would also suggest getting multiple copies to rotate in case it gets lost or ruined.

Thank you! It is about the size of a flannel already but because its fleece I didn't know if that was too big? I think attaching it to the bars is the way to go.
I've already got a spare one, great idea. I sleep with one after I've washed it and then swap them weekly. They get filthy!! Thanks for the advice. I'm a worrier!!
