Sorry if I’ve put this on the wrong thread but I’m beyond distraught!
Just going into kitchen to get a glass of water to go to bed and find a fucking rat eating the cat food!!!
Have finally found a company to come round and get rid of it , they’ll be here by 2am apparently.
I’m knackered but cannot sleep knowing it’s in the house!
DH asleep, he gets up at 5.45 for work so didn’t want to wake him.
Can’t even get to the fridge for wine cos of the little shit!
Anyone awake to give me some comfort?

No OP he's plucked that figure out of thin air! £645 would buy you a week in Wales!

Sticky boxes and traps/poison does NOT come to £645! Not even if flecks of gold were involved.....2am or otherwise

You've been well and truly conned!

LimitIsUp · 24/10/2018 10:42

Jesus - you've been done like a kipper. I would expect some financial mark up for the unsocial hours call out, but not that much

I had rats in the roof space and walls. Granted I was prepared to wait until the next day for them to come but it was less than £100 (Hampshire / Wiltshire border)

Reminds me of the time on a local page someone was begging for a plumber (??) to come out at ANY cost as there was a CENTIPEDE in her kitchen and she had a 4 month old baby and she was scared it would attack. I was suptiswd nobody came forward as a specialist centipede plumber for £££

Hedgehog80 · 24/10/2018 10:43

*surprised
Can’t type and hold a wriggly baby it seems

Update, I was feeling a bit ‘mug like’ despite feeling it wasn’t easy to be rational in the circumstances.
Just to say that rat bloke came back today, as he promised, blocked off all potential entry points under kitchen units, checked entire house and garden, drains etc. Put down traps and poison where necessary.
I’ve got a 3 month guarantee which includes 24hr call out.
He gave me a detailed breakdown of all costs.
It was worth every penny!

Ah, its looking a bit better value with that included - although still a tad pricey.

You have been conned. It took 4mths for us to finally get rid of our rat. We got to the stage we named it Rommel. It got cocky and would creep out during the day to nab food that I had just brought back from the shop. Poison, glue traps, rat traps .... it managed to move the glue traps so it could get past. It finally got caught under the sink on a glue trap and my other half had to finish it off..... it was only one but i lived in fear for months and could hear it every night!

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/10/2018 14:39

Rogueone your story horrified me!😱
4 months!!
I’m sorry but I would have paid 10 times what I did rather than have a rat popping out to nibble me groceries!!

How much???

Rogueone · 25/10/2018 17:47

But you haven’t got rid of your rat despite the cost! I have never yet heard of any rat catcher arrive at someone’s house and manage to catch a rat there and then. It’s usually a battle and rat man returning over the course of weeks or months to check the traps and also you need to hope it’s only one

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 25/10/2018 18:55

Hezz embarrassed to repeat it 😬
Rogueone the rat scooted back the way it came and it’s way of entry blocked.
I really didn’t feel the need to see a corpse to feel justified in paying to get rid. As long as it doesn’t get back in the house that’s fine by me.
Rat man also checked the drains and advised things to be fitted so waste can get out but nothing can get in.
Yes, it was expensive but I was not prepared to go to bed knowing it was in the house.
As I said before, I would be a nervous wreck expecting a big rodent to pop out at will.
And as for finishing off.......🤢
