Almost 1, cuddled to sleep. How do I break this and put him in his own cot to go to sleep?

My almost one year old was a EBF and always fed to sleep until about ten months. Then we managed to just hold him whilst sat in the armchair in his room, in his gro bag, following his usual bath/bedtime routine. I could transfer him to cot after about ten min asleep. Once we stopped feeding to sleep he has slept through, or woke himself cried and resettled himself within about five min.

It's working well, but I've had an awful cough this week so I keep unsettling him whilst cuddling. I'm now thinking we really should try to master getting him in the cot to fall asleep....

So far I've tried putting him in there before ten min but he just startles and screams.

Anyone got any tips?!!! X

My advice would be to start with his naps. A wise woman told me 'don't anything during the night that you don't do during the day' and it's definitely worked with my three.

Any changes we need to make to the nighttime - not feeding to sleep, sleeping in their own beds/ rooms, one story not 18 billion - we did with their naps first.

Not saying it's a perfect solution or anything but it seems to work okay.

He’s not even 1.... it’s ok to cuddle your baby. The Gina Ford police aren’t going to come round Hmm

If it only takes 10 minutes and he sleeps through then I'd stick with cuddles! But if you want to try self settling then he'll need something else to cuddle so try introducing a bear or comfort blanket

Cuddle him! He sleeps through - brilliant - you have no worries there. A cuddle at bedtime is a lovely thing. Enjoy it.

Honestly in your position I would just wait till your cough passes and you can get back to the previous routine, which sounds like it was working well!
