What are your 4 and 5 month old schedules?

My DD has lengthened one of her naps but she is still doing 4 a day (up at 0630, down at 0730) and is up for a max of 2 hours. I read one sleep site that said one or two naps a day at this age?! Surely not...

Hmm my LO definitely had more than 2 naps at that age! Still does occasionally at 6 months

My 5 month old has between 3 and 4 naps a day!! Generally 1 big one with 2/3 shorter ones. If she had 1 or 2 naps per day she would be a grumpy nightmare!!

Yes 3-4 naps is normal sometimes it feels like Cat naps. 2 naps comes about 6 months and 1 nap at a year.

I've always used this site as a guide
www.babycentre.co.uk/a7645/how-much-sleep-does-your-baby-need but always been more focused on overall amount of sleep in 24 hours, rather than the actual number of naps.

Generally speaking mine were having 3 naps a day at that age. I wouldn't say there's anything wrong with four though if that's what they want/need. I'm of the "sleep feeds sleep" camp.

Great thanks all...sounds like DD is not so far off track after all...

DS is 5 months and he has 4 naps a day about 90% of the time. Very occasionally 3 if one of them is really long. Definitely nowhere near one or two!

jomaIone · 17/10/2018 07:24

Mine is 6 and a half months and still needs her 3 naps a day. They're never longer than an hour though. Just go on what your baby needs, they'll sort themselves out when they're ready to change!

My 5 month old can fight them and some days only have 1 and not be too grumpy but we pay for it at bedtime. I'm now working on approx. 2hrs awake then he needs to nap assuming he is awake for 12 hrs a day (up at 7am, bed at 7pm) so this usually is 3 naps. This is v hard fought though, he's a bugger.

misspumpkinhead · 17/10/2018 13:15

My son is three months and NEVER naps in the day. Ever. He hasn't since he was about a month old.

Occasionally he might have ONE ten minute nap at around 2pm but that's it. Sometimes he doesn't even have that.

He does sleep through the night though without waking.

threetwoonezero · 17/10/2018 13:19

@misspumpkinhead OUCH! He must get really grumpy!

@threetwoonezero he seems happy most of the time but I suppose sometimes, anytime between 4pm-8pm he can start to get a bit grumpy but he just won't ever sleep in the day. I've tried everything! Sad

then he'll eventually fall asleep anytime between 8pm and 10pm and he'll wake in the morning anytime between 6am-9am

www.weebeedreaming.com/my-blog/sample-schedule-4-months-up

This is what we followed from about 5 month up. My little boy only started having two naps regularly at about 8 months. He used to wake at 6am religiously however, so he couldn't stay up til 9am until recently, so we had to finagle it a bit. But he does nap like a champ, so we never had any problems with length of naps and then awake times.

I think that "windows of awake" times are definitely the most important thing. No point trying to stick to a schedule and get a baby overtired, then they definitely won't nap!

Good to read that weebeedreaming site and see the progression they might take thanks for sharing @sar302
