My 9 month old often ends up in our bed in the early hours. He’s not a brilliant sleeper and by about 3am my resolve to settle then play cot roulette (is it lava? Is it not?) is depleted so I bring him in following safe co-sleep guidelines (he is in sleep suit and so just has a sheet on him, I ditch the pillows etc).
This morning he was fairly fidgety, I was dozing and he launched himself off the side of the bed. He totally missed the pillows and has a scratch on his eye, poor lad. I keep him on my side as his dad can be a bit disturbed in his sleep (tosses and turns, sleep talks) and neither of us are comfortable with baby in bed next to him. Our bed is a low divan so it’s about knee height.
Bed against wall or on floor is not an option. I was looking at bed rails and wondering if they are safe to use? He’s big and mobile, would we still have the danger of him getting trapped against rail?
