Nearly 8mo doesn't sleep - and now doesn't want to nap. Is it teething, or am I doing something wrong?

My DS is nearly 8 months old. Has never slept particularly well - still BF, and cosleeping (I have a cot right next to the bed, which I try to pop him back into but with limited success). He goes down usually around 7-7:30, wakes probably hourly through the night, then up for the day from about 7 onwards.

Up until 2 or 3 weeks ago, he was pretty good at napping. Not amazing, but not too bad - an hour in the morning, a couple of hours after lunch, sometimes a 3rd catnap if things got a bit much. He wouldn't nap in the cot, but was very happy in the pram. Now I can happily get him to sleep in the pram - drops off at the drop of a hat - but will not stay asleep for longer than about 25 minutes. Sometimes 35-40 minutes, but rather than waking up refreshed, my usually delightful little boy is crabby and ready for another snooze almost immediately.

I do use a sling - did almost exclusively for about 2 months when he was about 3 months old - so could go back to naps in that, but I feel like that's going backwards rather than forwards. Feeling slightly helpless.

He is teething, so could it just be down to that? And please tell me it might suddenly improve when the tooth comes through? I need a decent night...

Have a look at the 8 month sleep regression, it’s brutal. Months 7-11 for us were rough! It got better from a year (slightly)

Ah bugger... Regressing from bad to...worse.
Thanks for your reply - sometimes it's just nice to know it's all normal!

Just if anyone wonders (or if I end up looking it up in a sleep-deprived haze trying to get as -yet-unconceived DC2 to sleep), having a little longer between naps 1 and 2 worked miracles. I mean, he still doesn't sleep well at night, but if he was a bit more tired after lunch, he'd stay sleeping for 1.5-2hrs, which to me was magical. So current routine looks like
7:00 bf, up, breakfast
9:00 walk DH to work, snooze on the way home for 1ish hr
1:00 lunch
2:00 dog walk, baby snooze for 1.5-2hr
5:15 supper
6:30 bath
7:15ish bed

And then bf all night, but at least the naps are better

That's helpful to know OP. 8mo DS trying to drop his third cat nap but struggles to sleep more than 30mins. Maybe this is the way forward
