Sudden hysterics at bed time...

My DD is now 9 weeks old and up until about three days ago she would go down to bed pretty quietly with few tears but now, literally as soon as her bum touches the mattress it's hysterics. I don't know what to do!

I've made sure she is sleepy but not asleep and I tend to leave her for five minutes before I check her nappy, burp her and see if she's hungry but it's like as soon as I pick her up she will call down and start to fall asleep in my arms (even if I am completely still) but as soon as I go to put her down the hysterics start again.

Any advice? Do I just let her cry it out? Should I only pick her up once (rocking the crib makes no difference either)? Should I pick her up and soothe her every time? Aaaaargh!

It took nearly 90 minutes last night for her to fall asleep and it's just starting again now....
