Sleep 2 year old

Hi,

We've recently managed to get our 2 year old to sleep in his own crib.
Up to then he mostly ended up in our bed.

It meant we could all sleep although not an ideal situation.

4 days ago I put him in his crib for his nap (he protested a lot).
3 and a half hours later he did go to sleep on his own accord.

From then all sleeps have been in his crib, he even now tries to get into his crib... It's been a big success.

Unfortunately he now wakes 2-3 times in the night now and he needs comforting. I'm wondering what our expectations might be from here? Is it likely he will be able to start sleeping without that comfort or will we have to introduce some kind of controlled crying to get him use to sleeping without our presence?

many thanks!
Matt
