4 month sleep regression

So the dreaded 4 month sleep regression started about a month ago now and my baby is 16 weeks old but over the last two nights we've hit an all time low. Waking every 20-40 minutes or sometimes even refuses to be put down in his cot and just wants to be held to sleep. Which I'm just gonna go with for now but please someone tell me it gets better?!? Even before the last two nights he was waking every 1-2 hours. Safe to say I'm almost running on empty. Any survival tips? Pears of wisdom?? Help me!

My DS is almost 2 now but I remember that stage like it was yesterday. At around 16w DS did 30-40 min wake ups through the night and it went on for about 3 weeks or so. It was incredibly hard and I’ve never felt so tired but it passes. I’m afraid there was nothing we could do apart from ride it out
