My 2.7yo sleeps with me and dp and has done since newborn. I sometimes have nights where i can get him to sleep in his own bed but he's awake and in our bed in a couple of hours and trying to put him back in his own bed is like ww3! I am shattered, he is such a horrible sleeper and fidgets so much, ive not slept straight through the night since he was born and it's taking it's toll on me. I know i need to be strict and commit to this but dont know how/where to start? Any advice would be gratefully received.

I don't have any advice, but I'm a year down the line and in the same position with our 3 year old.

So hoping for some advice!

We have this issue. We briefly fixed it before a regression by the following method.

  1. Go into bed with them until they get used to that.
  2. Sit at the end of their bed until they get used to that.
  3. Sit by the bed holding their hand until they get used to that.
  4. Sit in room.eyc

When my DS was 2 (he's now 6) we ended up just putting his mattress on the floor next to our bed. Not ideal but he was still in with us so felt safe and he wasn't in our bed so we all got some sleep. He ended up staying there for about a year and outgrew it, he is an excellent sleeper and goes to bed no problem.
