What first, night weaning or self settling

Almost 1 year old is notoriously poor sleeper. He did a brilliant spell of self settling until a holiday and has since needed to be held to sleep which im fine with, but he still wakes every 2 hours wanting a bfeed which i am 90% sure is habit. He has 3 meals and snacks a day.

First wake up now and hes settled in my arms with a cuddle after 5mins of grumbly wriggling (no crying) success!! So i carry ln through the night right? But then is it possible he may rely on cuddles every 2 hours Hmm

Is there a better way?

We did gradual withdrawal and gradual retreat with ds1. So we increased the times between feeds by 15 minutes every 3 days or so and at the same time decreased the amount of support needed for him to go to sleep every 3 days or so. We went from feeding to sleep, to rocking to sleep, to holding to sleep, to comforting him in his cot, to sitting by his cot, to sitting in the same room, to sitting by the door , to sitting just outside the door. It did take a while and a bit of crying but it was very successful

Self settling is developmental so you may have to wait. I wouldn't have any problems with still feeding a one year old through the night as it's still young. There's a huge development leap around 18 months so personally I wouldn't do anything until that has passed.
